STEPHEN SQUIBB
Stephen was lucky enough to begin learning to ride at a barn in the south of England at the age of 6. He continued to ride at this barn until leaving school at 18 and begin paid employment. During this period he competed in numerous shows in southern and south western England, with occasional success on the borrowed horse or pony of the day. The real highlight of the period was being selected to ride for his school team at Hickstead, but never made it past the first round.
Work and qualifying as a Bomb Disposal Officer made regular riding almost nonexistent until Linda moved two of her horses from Quebec to England in 2000. Certainly any chance of competing for nearly 30 years was not going to happen!
Upon moving to Canada in 2004, after retirement from blowing up anything he could and being paid to do it, riding became a daily activity again. After some thought about age, risk and if he really want to be competitive again, he re entered the Jumper Ring after a gap of 28 years 10 months and start getting some pleasing results and even the odd victory. NO GUTS - NO JUMPS probably describes his preferred style of attack, but not something to be encouraged in everyone!
Stephen’s motto: Train hard, Fight easy, and Die young!! Or 3 strides out, go for it!!
